Laborers Local 108

Laborers Local 108 members do the gritty work that keeps New York City moving day to day. These laborers are the ones who work at recycling and garbage transfer stations throughout the city, mostly in the Bronx and in Brooklyn. They operate heavy machinery to move the trash, sort materials that come into transfer stations, and keep the stations in working order. Often waking at 3:00am to start work, the unceremoniuos job of these union members is rarely witnessed by the eyes of everyday New Yorkers. Photographs by Sam Hollenshead.
