Child Labor

The problem of child labor throughout the world is large and pervasive. While the International Labor Organization (ILO) estimates that there are 250 million child laborers between the ages of 5 and 14 worldwide, the number is probably greater due to accounting errors. The causes of child labor are numerous, although much of it can be attributed to the grinding poverty that exists in developing nations throughout the world. With limited options children are compelled to work side by side with parents or alone in order to make enough money to eat and survive. Caught in an endless cycle so many children lose their youth to a life of labor. Photos by Sam Hollenshead
